Learning Outcomes
- Developing perception, skill, and creativity, including demonstrations, practice, and projects in various techniques from gesture to final form renderings.
- Surveying and architecture from the Renaissance to the 20th century AND art from the early 20th century to the present, as well as the medium of photography from its invention in 1839 to the present, including the development of movies and video.听
- Taking an introduction to basic design concepts, computer literacy, and software competency.
- Experiencing three听of the basic types of publishing tools used by designers -- Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Surveying the designers, works, technologies, and philosophies of the major design movements, as well as creating work exploring these areas and various pieces reflecting the work of the movements being studied.
- Learning the connection of design to art and popular culture, as well as the cyclical nature of design.
- Study of the history of furniture, interior design, and architectural design traced from antiquity to modern times, considering socio-cultural, political, and economic factors in relation to their influence on design motifs, styles, and trends OR surveying contemporary interior design from the end of the 19th century to the present day, considering specific designers, movements, and socio-cultural influences on motifs, styles, and trends.
