Assistant Professor
Dr. Downey obtained his Ph.D. in pure mathematics in 2001 at Kent State University. His areas of research are Functional Analysis and Operator Theory and Digital Image Forensics. Besides publications, he has also written software in the form of a graphical user interface (Atom 2.0) which is used to find edits in digital images. He serves as an expert witness in this field, having testified in a case for Harvard University. Besides researching and teaching mathematics, he is also a fine art nature photographer and an avid outdoorsman.
